At the age of 90, Mary Chronopoulou breathed her last. The protagonist of the old Greek cinema was hospitalized intubated, in critical condition, after falling on the steps of her house.

She herself in an earlier interview had spoken with moving words about the death of Martha Karagiannis and also about the strong relationship the two had.

“I’m a rag. So many deaths in two days. I feel like I’m following… And almost everyone younger than me. This two days was an ‘artistic Auschwitz’.

“We have much to say when we meet”

“Marthoula, my sweet girl, may your journey be peaceful. We have a lot to talk about when we meet…She wasn’t my bestie, but we were brotherly. She was one of the very few colleagues who visited me in the hospital during all the years I was sick. She and Beata Asimakopoulou. None of them were close friends of mine. Beata and I even met 40 years ago! After three months he left cancer! I’m a rag. So many deaths in two days. I feel like I’m following… And almost everyone younger than me. This two-day event was an artistic Auschwitz.

Such a mass death, it’s just unbelievable. Looking around me for directors, actors, choreographers, I see a vast wilderness. A universal, artistic massacre. I just can’t stand it. This “slaughter” is not easily dealt with!

The great actress had also referred to an incident from the movie “A Lady in Bouzoukis”. “With Martha, we played, together, only in musicals. I remember her constantly on a diet, to wear a bikini (everyone asked her to appear in a swimsuit) and cursing the time and the moment. She was very careful about her figure… I will never forget the football description she made of her beloved Kostas Voutsas in the role of the footballer Masouros, in the movie “A lady with bouzoukis”.
