Operation for the rescue of foreigners who were on board a wooden boat which was off Agia Galini in Crete, was carried out early Friday morning by the Coast Guard.

According to the information from the Headquarters of the Coast Guard – Hellenic Coast Guard, on Saturday morning, patrol boat LS-EL.AKT. spotted in the sea area north of Farmakonissi, an unmanned inflatable boat, with a sufficient number of passengers.

The above patrol boat picked up thirty-five (35) foreigners, all in good health and transported them safely to the port of Leros and then to the Closed Controlled Structure of Leros. The boat in which the above foreigners were on board sank.

Also, in the morning hours today, patrol boat L.S.-EL.AKT. spotted in the sea area south-east of Farmakonisi, an unmanned inflatable boat, with a sufficient number of passengers.

The above patrol vessel picked up sixteen (16) foreigners, all in good health and transported them safely to the port of Leros and then to the Closed Controlled Structure of Leros. The boat in which the above foreigners were on board sank.

The preliminary investigation for both incidents is carried out by the Port Authority of Leros
