A retired police officer was sentenced to 5 years in prison for – when he was still active – he covered a gang active in the smuggling of cigarettes on the market in the center of Thessaloniki.

The involvement of the 55 -year -old police officer, who appears to have served in the Republic Square Security Department, came from telephone surveillance. As a police officer testified in the trial, the 55 -year -old defendant informed the gang executives in view of forthcoming checks by facilitating the action of the criminal group.
