A 34-year-old foreigner was arrested for the case, who in the past had engaged the authorities for similar cases
A fully equipped laboratory for the production of fake travel documents, in an apartment in the area of Kypseli, was discovered by the Police on Saturday, October 7.
For the case a 34-year-old foreigner was arrestedwho in the past had concerned the authorities for similar cases, while a case file was filed against him for forgeryacceptance and disposal of proceeds of crime and the Aliens Act.
As it was established, the price of each document forged by the defendant amounted to at least 500 euros, while the expected illegal financial benefit from the circulation of the above documents is estimated to exceed 339,500 euros.
According to the Police, an appropriate evaluation of information was carried out, from the utilization of which it emerged that the accused was manufacturing forged documents which were used to facilitate the illegal stay of foreigners in Greece, but also for their illegal exit to third countries.
The 34-year-old man was spotted by police officers in a vehicle in an area of Athens on the evening of Friday, October 6, and during the control that was carried out, the vehicle was confiscated as well as 8 documents of foreign nationals, 6 keys, 150 euros and 2 mobile phones.
An investigation followed, in the presence of a judicial officer, at the defendant’s home and storage area, where a fully equipped and sophisticated laboratory for the manufacture and falsification of fake travel documents, mainly from European Union countries, was located.
In these areas, in total, the following were found and seized:
• 4 printers,
• 2 plasticizers,
• 100 laminating cards,
• 86 blank lamination sheets,
• 121 identity cards from third countries,
• 75 blank cards,
• 70 passports,
• 48 residence permits,
• 46 driving licenses,
• 22 insurance certificates of foreign Authorities,
• 11 document construction matrices,
• 5 stamps of other countries,
• 3 laptops,
• materials for making fake documents (glues, paints, etc.),
• engraver,
•USB, containing a photo editing program,
• authentication machine and
• number of passport pages, passport photos and photocopies of travel documents
The arrested person was taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
