Time Out magazine, like every year, published its list of the 40 coolest neighborhoods in the world for 2023, among them an artistic district of Madrid, a sustainable part of Melbourne and an up-and-coming area in Medellin.

The 31st place is occupied by Exarchia, with the magazine noting that it is a historically radical neighborhood, which is increasingly becoming a tourist spot.

Time Out’s coolest neighborhoods for 2023:

  • Laureles: Medellín, Colombia
  • Smithfield: Dublin, Ireland
  • Carabanchel: Madrid, Spain
  • Havnen: Copenhagen, Denmark
  • Sheung Wan: Hong Kong
  • Brunswick East: Melbourne, Australia
  • Mid-City, New Orleans
  • Isola: Milan, Italy
  • West: Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • Tomigaya: Tokyo, Japan

The Exarchia

“The resistance character of Exarchia has not been lost yet. They are still a place where activists and anarchists congregate, whether in hangouts like the Circle Hill or in the bars and cafes that fill their streets. The area is home to one of the oldest universities in Greece, cultural venues from museums to record stores and excellent places to eat and drink. So if you want a taste of the anarchist underground culture of Greece, visit Exarchia”, notes Time Out magazine.

It is recalled that in last year’s list of 51 neighborhoods, Pagrati was in 39th place mainly because of the many bars in the area but also for the combination of neoclassical and modern architecture.
