The “Social Hairdresser” of the Reception and Solidarity Center of the Municipality of Athens (K.Y.D.A.), opened its doors today to all those who need its services. This is a pioneering structure created in order to offer free haircuts and shaving to our homeless fellow citizens, but also to families who live under difficult conditions in their daily lives.

The space located at the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Center of the Municipality of Athens (Domokou 2 and Philadelphia, opposite Larissa Station) and created with the kind sponsorship of the professional products sector of the company L’Oréal Hellas, competes in both aesthetics and modern equipment hair salon.

The “Social Hairdresser” stands out, however, for another reason: It is the first structure of K.Y.A.D.A. which will work exclusively with volunteer hairdressers, in collaboration with Anastasios Stavropoulos, known as Anber – a professional hairdresser, who has offered important social work to people in need of care and support.

At noon on Tuesday, at the Citizens’ Mutual Aid Center, the inauguration of the “Social Hairdresser” took place in the presence of the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis, the President of K.Y.A.D.A. Melina Daskalaki, the general manager of the professional products department of L’Oréal Hellas Maria Corali, as well as the volunteers who participate in the project. In fact, during the event, the first services were offered to beneficiaries.

Aim to feel interest and care

This special initiative of the Municipality of Athens, which aspires to contribute to the strengthening of the psychology and self-confidence of all those who find it difficult to cope with the needs of everyday life, became a reality with the support of L’Oréal Professional Products, which in addition to construction and equipment of the hairdresser, will also provide care products.

The goal of all those involved in this initiative is for these people to be able, in the hands of experienced professionals, to feel the interest and care they need in their daily lives.

“The Citizens’ Mutual Aid Center is a structure through which we take care with the required respect to offer to the homeless, but also to individuals and families in need, all the necessary goods and services for their dignified living. The creation of the “Social Hairdresser” completes the wide range of services provided by the Municipality of Athens to all those who need our support. I would like to say a huge “thank you” to L’Oréal Professional Products who very generously contributed to our project. We owe an even bigger “thank you” to Anber, but also to the whole team of hairdressers, who will voluntarily support this effort. These are young people who could go on with their lives without looking away, but they choose to dedicate time and valuable energy to their fellow citizens, sending a message that “together we can do it”. “The” Social Hairdresser “is a complementary” step “in the process of social reintegration and we are proud of this initiative”, stressed the Mayor of Athens, Costas Bakogiannis.
