Specifically, five people were arrested, members of the organization accused of the offenses of forming and joining a criminal organization and forgery, as well as violations of the Immigration Code. A foreigner, leader of the organization, is also included in the case file.

As announced, from the police investigation conducted by the Samos Security Directorate, using appropriate evidence, it emerged that, at least since the end of August 2023, the leader and those arrested formed and joined a criminal organization with a hierarchical structure, distinct roles and continuous action, for the purpose of distributing, for a monetary fee, fake international protection applicant cards to irregularly entering third-country nationals on the island of Samos.

In particular, the members of the ring, acting under the guidance of their leader, procured the forged documents from the region of Attica and then sold them to illegally entering foreigners in Samos, in order to facilitate their illegal stay and movement in the Greek territory.

As part of the investigations, among other things, 11 fake international protection applicant cards, two fake identity cards of foreign authorities, four ferry tickets and two airline boarding passes were found and confiscated.

The arrested persons were taken to the Samos First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, while the preliminary investigation work of the Samos Security Sub-Directorate is ongoing, in order to further investigate the scope of the criminal activity and the links of the organization, the possible participation of more people in it, as well as the possible involvement of in related legal actions.
