From the videos that have been made public, which will be investigated by the prosecutor who took over the investigation, Angeliki Triantafillou, it appears that the police have immobilized a protester, who is lying on the ground, and are beating him.
The head of the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianos, ordered the conduct of a criminal investigation on the occasion of the publication of a video in which police officers in Victoria Square are recorded severely beating a protester who fell to the ground after immobilizing him.
The head of the Prosecutor’s Office instructed the head of Criminal Prosecutions, Angeliki Triantafillou, to conduct a criminal preliminary examination in the context of which the incident recorded last night outside the ISAP Victoria station will be investigated.
Mrs. Triantafillou will await the conclusion of the urgent EDE conducted by order of the competent minister, however she will immediately start her own actions to clarify the case. The prosecutor’s office will look for the disputed video footage and any other evidence of what happened in order to identify the group to which the police officers belonged and subsequently to identify the specific ones recorded in the video violently beating the protester.
Based on the data collected by the Public Prosecutor, the further course of the case will be evaluated in terms of criminal liability.
