A Coast Guard vessel located and rescued on Monday night, 29 migrants who were on board a speedboat in the sea area in Chios.

The Coast Guard patrol boat used light and sound signals, but the speedboat with the migrants did not stop and began to make dangerous maneuvers to escape.

A chase ensued, while the men of the Coast Guard fired warning shots in a safe area and finally managed to stop the speedboat with the migrants.

There were 30 people on board the speedboat (20 men, six women and four minors), who were safely transported to the port of Chios, accompanied by a Coast Guard lifeboat.

The 29 immigrants were taken to the Registration and Identification Center of the KEDN of Chios “VIAL”, while the 44-year-old foreign operator was arrested of the vessel for violation of the “Immigration and Social Integration Code and other provisions” and for “illegal entry and exit from the country”.
