The fountains of Athens are coming back to life after many years, giving precious breaths of coolness and renewal to the city’s residents and visitors. As part of the coordinated actions of the services of the Municipality of Athens for their renovation and re-operation, the upgrading of an additional six fountains in neighborhoods of Athens was completed.

In the past days, the work was completed on six fountains, which are located in Athanasiou Diakos Square in Thymarakia (Paraskevopoulos and Rhodes), Agios Sostis (Timokreontos), Spyros Patsis (Children’s Fun Roof) and Fleming Square (Spyros Patsis).

During the works – where it was deemed necessary – stripping was done of the damaged facilities, special cleaning, painting, polishing, repair of marble surfaces, replacement of piping as well as installation of new state-of-the-art equipment, pumps, lighting, wiring, etc. were carried out.

“The fountains of Athens have always been connected to the history and life of the city. Over the last four years, we have implemented a large, multifaceted project with the aim of reviving them, so that these unique decorative water elements can once again become part of our everyday life. Because the life of our city passes through its 129 neighborhoods”, says the Mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, in a statement.

The work is in progress and in several more fountains of the city, in all the municipal communities of Athens, with the aim of delivering them to the Athenians as soon as possible.

It is worth noting that in the last four years, 34 fountains located in the center and the neighborhoods of the city were fully repaired and reopened, while the first step was taken with the construction of the fountain in Omonia Square.
