In the 5.5 months after the second dose of the vaccine, the platform of the third dose appointments will be open for all citizens, according to Vana Papaevangelou, professor of pediatrics and member of the committee of experts.
Speaking on SKAI TV and the show “Simera”, he explained that in this way the third installment will be given to the citizens on the days when the six months will be completed.
“Because we understand the anxiety of the people, we discussed yesterday with the secretary general Mr. Themistokleous that the platform will open in 5.5 months, so that everyone, on the days that close the six months, can go and do their dose.”
Ms. Papaevangelou, added that the administration of the third dose was discussed earlier in the National Vaccination Committee, however there is no bibliographic data to support such a thing “and we must focus on doing it at the right time, for everyone”.
He added, however, that while the third dose is being discussed, one in four people over the age of 80 remain unvaccinated, ie those who are most at risk of being hospitalized, entering the ICU or losing their lives.
He stressed the importance of persuading all those over 50 to be vaccinated, typically saying “we failed in this, let’s say it, let us not be afraid of words”. However, the professor expressed her satisfaction with the vaccinations in recent weeks.
For the schools, he stressed that obviously they will not close as things are generally going well for the children. The operation of the schools, he noted, does not burden the pandemic and while when the school cases the cases in children were 27%, now this percentage has dropped to 24%. Ms. Papaevangelou stated that the protocol as designed with the exhaustive testing for children has contributed to this process.
