They made their… beds and the bears fell asleep in Nymphaeus after the bitter cold and snow. According to an announcement from Arctouros, the Bear Protection Center in Nymphaeus has been closed since Sunday, December 17, for the winter hibernation of the animals. In fact, this was the first time they slept so early in the 31 years of operation of Arcturus.

Lately the mobility of the bears had decreased significantly, while the elderly Sasha and Alexandra had retired to their nests since the beginning of December. Irene, Sandy and Mira preferred to sleep in natural earthen nests, which they carefully lined with leaves and twigs, while several, such as Tasoula, Barbara and Kyriakos chose the artificial nests.

The site will remain closed until March. Visitors can take a guided tour of the Bear Information Center in Nymphaeum (Nikeios School) and the Wolf & Lynx Protection Center in Agrapidies. The two venues will be open every day until Sunday, January 7.
