The traditional event of Momogera is one of the carnival events of the twelve days, it starts on Christmas Eve and lasts until shortly after the Lights. It takes place in eight municipal districts of Kozani (Tetralofos, Agios Dimitrios, Alonakia, Skiti, Protochori, Komnina, Asvestopetra, Kariochori) and is linked to the strong tradition that the refugees from certain areas of the Pontus have kept alive.

Due to its importance, the customary event is registered in its Representative List Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).

The Momogera dance troupes consist of a group of young dancers where they obey the orders and carry out the orders of the leader of the group. To troupe there is the bride and the devil, or someone dressed as an old man who during the action he will try to steal the bride. The stealing of the bride is common to all troupes and variations of the custom, and symbolizes, as it is said, “Pluto’s abduction of Persephone.” The content of the troupe’s performances is usually comedic and in some cases it can also take on social dimensions

Accompanied by the Pontian lyre, the Momogeri from Tetralofos, Alonakia and Skiti Kozani, danced in the central square, delighting young and old alike.
