The Union of Greek Police Officers of Central Macedonia made a statement about the tragic death of 31-year-old police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis.

In the announcement, among other things, it is stated: “NO, another policeman did not die! NO, a sub-constable of the Greek Police did not die! NO, a ‘matatji’ did not die in episodes. George Lyggeridis died. A young kid of 31, who started to go to work 500 kilometers away from his hometown, Thessaloniki, and he was murdered.”

Full announcement:

“NO… it wasn’t just another police officer who died.”

NO, another cop didn’t die!
NO, a sub-constable of the Greek Police did not die!
NO, a “matzai” did not die in episodes!

George Lyggeridis died.

A young 31-year-old kid, who started to go to work 500 kilometers away from his hometown, Thessaloniki, and was murdered!

A young kid who was lost before he could even fulfill his dreams, a kid who lived away from his home and family, like so many of our colleagues, because he wanted to be a Policeman. He wanted to serve his homeland, the Republic, the common Greek citizen.

We are deeply heartbroken and grieving, the entire police family, our colleague Giorgos LYGERIDIS.

George Lyggeridis did not die through any fault or omission of his own. His parents entrusted their child to the Greek State to serve it and it returns him in a coffin.

Heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.

We call on the Greek State, through the Ministry of Citizen Protection, to declare three days of national mourning for the Greek Police with flags at half-mast in all Police Services. It is the minimum tribute that he has a duty to pay for the life of Giorgos LYGGERIDES”.
