The Greek government was represented by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, responsible for issues of Greek diaspora, George Kotsiraswhile the presidents of SYRIZA-PS were present, Stefanos Kasselakisand of PASOK-KIANAL, Nikos Androulakis. Impressive was the participation of pilgrims from Greece and other countries, who arrived at Fanari to watch the immersion ceremony of the Cross in the waters of the Horned Gulf, on the beach in front of the seat of the Ecumenical Throne.

Consecration of the waters took place in other parts of Constantinople, in the Bosphorus, Princes’ Islands, Agios Stefanos and Modi of Chalcedon on the Asian coast, where the Consecration of the waters took place for the first time after 49 years. After the Divine Liturgy, the Ecumenical Patriarch hosted a meal in honor of his guests, followed by a private meeting with Mr. Kasselakis.

In his statements, the president of SYRIZA-PS, Stefanos Kasselakis, emphasized: “Happy birthday, happy new year to all Greeks wherever they are. It is a great honor and I am grateful to the Ecumenical Patriarch for inviting me to be here in Fota, at the Ecumenical Patriarchate. It is a festive day, a great day for Orthodoxy, where we must put into practice what the Holy Father said in his sermon. May this spiritual background of our faith be put into practice in peace, so that we can bring peace to our neighborhood, but also social peace within Greece. I wish from the bottom of my heart that the holy spirit will enlighten all Greeks, that we can become our best selves, that we have solidarity with each other, health in the new year and a sincerely happy year, a smile and everyone together for Hellenism, wherever we are”.

The president of PASOK-KINAL, Nikos Androulakis, said: “It is my pleasure and honor to be here at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople for the great celebration of Orthodoxy. I wish that at the beginning of this new year there will be prosperity, economic growth and social justice for all Greek citizens and especially for the weakest. I wish for stability and peace in humanity and to finally end the two conflicts that are developing in our wider neighborhood spreading death to thousands of people. Happy birthday with health to all Greek women and all Greeks everywhere on Earth”.
