A definitive end to the chronic problem of water sufficiency in the “Antonis Tritsis” Metropolitan Park is expected to be provided by the project of drilling an exploratory well in the Municipality of Agios Anargyro – Kamatero and the construction of a water supply pipeline, which is now on track for implementation by the decision of the Regional Governor of Attica.

The signing of the relevant programming contract, totaling 336,000 euros, took place at the District Headquarters, between the District Governor Nikos Hardalia, the President of the development organization of the Region “New Metropolitan SA”. Dimitris Fragakis, the managing director of the organization Giorgos Kormas, the President of the “Antonis Tritsis” Metropolitan Park Management organization Sakis Katsoulis and the Mayor of Agios Anargyros – Kamateros Stavros Tsirbas.

Project objectives – Implementation

The intervention concerns the drilling of water wells for the study of water sufficiency in the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Agios Anargyro – Kamateros, as well as the pumping and transport of water in a length of approximately 1,400 meters to the Park.

The aim is to establish that the quality of the water is suitable and sufficient, in order to cover the needs of irrigation, green maintenance and filling of the lakes and therefore to ensure the sustainable operation and upgrading of the most important green lung in Western Attica.

The financing is done entirely from the Attica Region’s own resources, within the framework of a 36-month Program Contract, while the tendering and implementation of the project will be carried out by the Technical Services Department of “New Metropolitan Attica S.A.” based on the applicable provisions.

After the signing of the program contract, the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, said:

“From the first moment we took over the administration of the capital Region of the country, we committed to radically change the image and function of our Metropolitan parks, which must evolve into models of green development, culture and social life as “living cells” of our Attica.

With the project of the new borehole and the water supply pipeline in the “Antonis Tritsis” park, we are finally giving a definitive solution to a chronic problem, ensuring its natural wealth, the lakes and the continuation of its vital function as a green lung for Western Athens and for the entire Basin. With hard work, perseverance and cooperation with all the relevant agencies, we continue to invest with projects that leave a substantial mark on the daily lives of our fellow citizens and in the 66 neighborhoods of Lekanopedi, putting into practice everything we committed to for a “green”, “sustainable” and more “humane” Attica”.

He added: “Upgrading our Metropolitan parks is not a piecemeal intervention. It is a strategic choice. It is part of a holistic plan that we implement consistently, because we firmly believe that the quality of life of citizens passes through the environment and the public spaces that belong to them. The Metropolitan parks of Attica are changing our face. From symbols of abandonment, they become signs of sustainable regeneration. And this is the legacy we want to leave to future generations.”

The signing of the contract was also attended by the General Director of “Neas Metropolitikis Attica S.A.” Efi Filiopoulou, the Deputy President of the “Antonis Tritsis” Metropolitan Park Management organization Athanasia Papaspyrou and the General Manager of the organization Anna Methimaki, as well as the Director of Development Planning of the Attica Region Mary Miska.
