Today marks two years since his murder Alki Kampanou after the attack of 12 PAOK fans, on Th. Gazi Street, in the area of Harilaou, in Thessaloniki.

According to thestival.gr, the clock showed 00:19 when the group of the deceased Alkis was attacked by the furious fans. The perpetrators approached their victims while they were on the steps of the Gazi Street building, asked them “what group are you from” and when one of them answered “Mars”, they attacked them violently, brandishing crowbars, knives, staves, folding clubs, metal pipes, even… scythe! Even when Alkis begged them to stop, they continued to beat him undeterred.

This murderous attack with fan motives cut the thread of Alkis Kampanos’ life at the age of only 19. Two of his friends were injured. Immediately after the fatal blow, the perpetrators fled and later tried to cover their tracks.

A few days after the murderous attack, 12 people are arrested as the culprits. They are being held as temporary prisoners, while during their apologies no one admitted that they were the ones who managed the fatal blow.

“Even if the attack took place outside a hospital, Alkis would not live”

The details given in her testimony, before the Mixed Jury Court, about the murder of Alkis Kampanos, the medical examiner and director of the Laboratory of Forensics and Toxicology of AUTH, professor of the Department of Medicine of AUTH, Leda-Kalliopi Kovatsis, caused a shock.

In fact, before starting her testimony, Mrs. Kovatsis urged the parents of the unfortunate Alkis to leave the courtroom, as – as she said – what will be heard is very harsh.

She described in great detail the injuries suffered by the two friends of the unfortunate Alki who were injured in the murderous attack they received on the evening of February 1, 2022, in the area of Harilaou, and also the situation they were in a few 24 hours after the horrible event.

“When I visited the two injured in the hospital, they were in psychological shock. I was talking to them and they were looking at the ceiling. It took a lot of effort to get in touch with them and tell me exactly what happened. It made a big impression on me”, said Mrs. Kovatsis during her testimony.

In fact, for one of Alki’s friends, he stated that he had a deep wound 9 cm long which was “stitched in advance”. For the other friend, he emphasized, among other things, that he had multiple injuries on his head, while he also had a deep bruise on his scalp.

The descriptions of Ms. Kovacs were chilling when he referred to the fatal injuries caused by PAOK fans to Alkis.

According to what he testified, the unfortunate 19-year-old suffered multiple injuries from three piercing and cutting organs and at least two blunt organs.

The experienced medical examiner thoroughly described the injuries Alkis suffered on his head.

“The external image does not match the internal image. If Alkis and his friend went to the hospital, the doctors would fall on his friend’s head and his thigh Elk. From the blows, the brain had swelled and did not fit in the skull.”

Regarding the wound on his right thigh, according to the medical examiner, the maximum diameter is 1 centimeter and the depth is 9 centimeters. “It has eaten the fatal artery and caused bleeding. Caused by nysson and cutting instrument. This specific wound is inconsistent with a sickle or a karabid,” he stressed.

He then gave details of Alki’s two wounds to the left thigh.

As Ms. Kovatsis said, they were caused by a different body. “In this young man, these injuries alone, under normal circumstances, would not have caused the death of the Moose.”

One wound is compatible with the karabitte knife, while the other wound is not inconsistent with a full sickle wound. “Only if the llama entered for a while could it be compatible,” said the medical examiner.

The president of the seat asked Mrs. Kovatsis a direct question about whether there was a possibility that Alkis would be alive, in case he was taken to the hospital within a few minutes. The medical examiner shook her head negatively and said: “Even if the incident happened at the outer gate of a large hospital, Alkis would not have lived. Everyone would fall on the thigh wound. Alki’s head was screaming from the inside and not from the outside.”
“I am the one who hit him in the leg”, confessed the 2nd accused

“I am the one who hit Alkis on the leg, that was a fleeting shadow that I still don’t remember well.”

With these words, the second defendant for the murder of Alkis Kampanos, A. G., admitted during his testimony before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki that he was the one who managed to hit the 19-year-old’s leg fatally on the evening of February 1st.

He was the only one of the 12 guilty who admitted that he hit Alkis Kampanos.

“Apologies to Alki’s parents”

“I want and must apologize to this family, especially to Alki’s parents,” the defendant also said during his plea.
“I wish I was in Alki’s place”

“I just want to say that time doesn’t turn back unfortunately, I wish I was in Alki’s position and this kid wasn’t where he is,” he said at another point in his apology.

According to what he said in his apology before the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki, in the last three weeks he realized that he was the one who managed the fatal blow to the femoral artery of Alkis Kampanos on the evening of February 1st.

The Prosecutor identified contradictions

“I, Mr. Defendant, do not believe what you say.” This is what the Public Prosecutor of the Joint Jury Court of Thessaloniki had said and began to direct questions to the second accused about the murder of Alkis.

The prosecutor “bombarded” the accused with questions, finding contradictions in what he first reported to the Police, then to the investigator and then in his statement before the Court.

“The 1st accused planned the attack, it is indisputable”

The prosecutor of the Mixed Jury Court, Kyriaki Kliaba, expressed the belief that the 1st defendant was the “mastermind” of the murderous attack on Alkis Kampanos and his company.

The prosecutor, during her trial, commented on the testimony of the 1st defendant and spoke of constant contradictions and unclear answers before the court.
