The first large-scale construction site has been installed in the Konstantinoupolitiki area – Why are the residents of the area protesting
The first large-scale construction site for the construction of the Flyover has been installed in area of Constantinople in eastern Thessaloniki.
The point is located above the ring road tunnels, where the Flyover and Ring Road will join, thus creating 5 + 5 traffic lanes for passing vehicles. In later stages of the work, the tunnels will be demolished and in their place pillars will be built to support the Elevated Expressway.
However, the first major intervention for the construction of the project, has caused further reactions to the residents of Constantinople. Especially those who live along Ippokratous Street report that they face particular problems in their daily lives.
The construction machinery works daily and intensively, resulting in “fuss and endless dust”, he tells Voria.gr the president of the Association of Residents of the Settlement of Constantinople, Ilias Gindis.
According to Mr. Gindis, the construction site has been established at the site for about two months and is “continuing to expand”, as a result of which it has now approached to a distance of less than 10 meters to the houses on Ippokratous Street.
“The machines also work during the common quiet hours, since they have received the relevant permission”, emphasizes the representative of the residents of the area, as a result of which they have lost their peace of mind. “We have lost our way,” he says characteristically.
The residents of Constantinople state that they are worried and indignant about the present, but also about the future.
“We have been living in this situation for a long time and it seems that this will happen for the next few years. In addition, the specific project will transfer the problem of traffic congestion from the height of Papageorgiou Hospital, to Constantinopolitika. That is, this monster will come out in front of people’s houses. Such long roads, in a residential area, are unacceptable for a European state,” says Mr. Gindis and adds: “We are in favor of the projects, as long as they are done correctly, with respect for people and the environment.”
