The little gorilla was named Jameela
Doctors performed a rare emergency caesarean section and delivered a cute little baby gorilla. The pregnant mother showed signs of pre-eclampsia and the doctors made the decision to proceed with a caesarean section.
A little peek into Jameela’s first few days.
She was born weighing 3 pounds, 1 ounce and consumed about 2.5 ounces of milk in her first bottle… today, she weighs more than 5 pounds and is drinking a bottle three times as full as her first. pic.twitter.com/BZzvnuVYkz

Officials at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas called in a team of gynecologists to help with the delivery. Together with the vets, they performed a rare emergency caesarean birth – five weeks early – saving the lives of mum and baby gorilla. In fact, the little gorilla was named Jameela.
After giving birth, Sekani, the mom, struggles to bond and care for the female newborn, who receives round-the-clock care from zookeepers. This is the third gorilla birth in the zoo’s 115-year history.
