Stathis Panagiotopoulos: An appeal was filed by the prosecutor – He asks to be tried for a crime

Appeal against his decision Three-member Criminal Court of Thessalonikiby which he was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, with suspensionthe TV presenter Stathis Panagiotopoulos for the publication, via the Internet, of material with personal moments of his ex-partner, was exercised by the prosecutor.

The prosecutor, based on the reasoning of the appeal, ruled that the charge of “violation of sensitive personal data on an ongoing basis” for which the 59-year-old TV presenter was convicted should be upgraded to a felony and therefore be referred to a higher court. A relevant proposal was made by the prosecutor of the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court, but it was not accepted by the Court, which ruled that the act was committed in its misdemeanor form, as it accepted that there was no evidence of “intent to harm”.

Under these circumstances, the case, according to prosecutorial sources, is taken to the Three-Member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki, which will rule on the appeal, and if it accepts it, it annuls the first-instance decision and judges it again.

It is recalled that the case was heard, in camera, last week, with the TV presenter being sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros.

His sentence, as decided by the Court, was suspended on the following conditions: a ban on leaving the country, a personal appearance once a month at the police station of his place of residence and monitoring by a social worker.

It is recalled that the TV presenter is accused of two similar cases after complaints from an equal number of his ex-partners. These cases preoccupied the prosecuting authorities, before Christmas, and the 59-year-old was then prosecuted in a felony degree for violating personal data. After his apology to an investigator he was released on restrictive terms and bail.
