The problems created by the extremely dangerous weather conditions that have prevailed since Thursday night in areas of Municipality of Meteora.

Specifically, according to the municipal authority, in the village Glicomelia the road leading to the village cemetery has been closed due to heavy rain. Similar problems exist on the way to Paleochori but also in the “Aretos” area after the Ambelia bridge.

There is also an accessibility problem in Vines as the stream that passes the settlement has brought down a large volume of water.

At the entrance of Kleinovo there is flood phenomenon on the road that leads to the settlement due to the materials being transported and the road technical equipment has been “blocked”. Also, there is a drop off on the road to Amaranto. In Ambelochori and Kastania, many portable materials have “fallen” and there are “clogged” technical devices that make it difficult for the water to flow properly within the settlements.

Furthermore, there is subsidence on the road before Kalomira on the road surface and on the road from Kalomira to Matoneri there is landslide. In Big Cherry, stream blocked the road due to high volume of water.

While a problem arose on the road from Diava to Krya Vrysi as there was a small landslide.

In the new city plan in Kalambaka problems arose due to heavy rainfall, however, the Municipality’s machine has been operating since the morning and is proceeding with the restoration of the damages. The entire mechanism of the Municipality of Meteora is ready and operates where there is a need in order to ensure access to the settlements facing problems.

In his statements at Athenian-Macedonian News Agencythe mayor of Meteora Mr. Lefteris Avramopoulos emphasizes: “The entire mechanism of the Municipality of Meteora is on alert and our machines are operating in many places where there is damage. There are many disasters in parts of the road network of the mountainous massif and our settlements have an accessibility problem. At the same time, in settlements such as Kastania and Ambelochori flooding phenomena have been created within settlements from imported materials. We are working with the Region of Thessaly to provide solutions to the many problems that have been created by the severe weather phenomena of the last few hours.”
