Almost six years after the deadly fire in Mati with over a hundred dead and dozens of burn victims, justice has completed the much-lauded trial and the Court announced that the decision for those who reached the bench will be announced on April 29, Holy Monday.

The decision will concern the guilt or innocence of the defendants tried in the months-long trial for misdemeanors, homicides and negligent bodily harm.

Most of those who finally sat on the bench were executives of the state apparatus at the time, Fire Brigade, Civil Protection as well as self-administrative agents, mayors of the region and the then regional governor.

In total there are 21 defendants together with the old man who was tried because he set the fire in Dau Pentelis and it spread with the known murderous results.

It is recalled that the prosecutor has proposed the guilt of 9 defendants and the acquittal of a total of 12 persons, including the regional governor of Attica, Rena Dourou and the mayor of Marathon, Il. Psinakis.

According to the prosecutor’s submission, the acts of serial negligent homicide, negligent bodily harm and negligent arson by circumstance were proven for the 9 defendants.
