At 10.2% the rate of unemployment in the country was formed in March this year, against the upwardly revised 11.4% in March 2023 and the downwardly revised 10.8% in February 2024. The unemployed amounted to 492,867 peoplemarking a decrease by 47,319 people compared to March 2023 (8.8%) and by 24,176 people compared to February 2024 (4.7%).

For women, the unemployment rate rose to 13.8% from 14.6% in March last year and for men to 7.2% from 8.7%.

By major age groups, in the 15-24 year old group the unemployment rate rose to 21.1% from 24.8% in March 2023 and in the 25-74 year old age group to 9.6% from 10.6%.

Also according to the ELSTAT labor force survey, the employed amounted to 4,325,848 people, marking an increase of 115,672 people compared to March 2023 (2.7%) and by 33,442 people compared to February 2024 (0.8 %).

While, people under 75 who are not in the labor force, or “people outside the labor force” (those not working or looking for work), amounted to 2,966,414 people, a decrease of 95,459 people compared to March 2023 (3.1%) and by 11,608 people compared to February 2024 (0.4%).
