The Greek students who participated in the 41st Balkan Mathematical Olympiad, which was organized from April 27 to May 2, in Varna, Bulgaria, achieved significant distinctions.

As the Hellenic Mathematical Society reports in its announcement, for one more year all Greek students managed to distinguish themselves in this particularly difficult and demanding competition, winning 1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze medals and a prestigious mention.

The gold medal was won by Orestis Lignos (Education Greek Education), the silver by Dionysios Petrakis (Kanithos General High School), the two bronze medals by Sokratis Iliadis (Anavryton Standard High School) and Ioannis Galamatis (Experimental School of the University of Thessaloniki) and the honorable mention Andreas Cavallaris (Erasmios Hellenic German School)

The Balkan Mathematical Olympiads are an important institution of international recognition in which teams from Southeast European countries with a tradition of success in Mathematical Olympiads participate. European countries with significant achievements in Mathematics such as the United Kingdom, France and Italy also participated in the 41st Balkan Mathematical Olympiad.

The leader of the Greek mission was the mathematician Alexandros Synkelakis and the deputy leader was the mathematician Minas Margaritis.

The contribution of the Ministry of Education, Religions and Sports to this whole effort was important”, concludes the announcement of the Hellenic Mathematical Society.
