The infant was not sick, he ate and slept in the evening and in the morning at around 6 o’clock the mother realized that he was unconscious and immediately took him to the General Hospital of Didymoteicho where he was pronounced dead.
Sudden infant death syndrome will be attributed to death of the 4-month-old infant who was taken dead by his parents yesterday morning to the hospital of Didymoteicho, as long as the histological examination that will be carried out does not reveal any pathological causes.
According to what the professor of forensics of the Democritus University of Thrace, Pavlos Pavlidis, who performed the autopsy at the University General Hospital of Alexandroupoli, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, there are no signs of illness, aspiration of gastric contents which occurs in infants, while criminal action has been ruled out.
“We don’t know the exact cause of death. We ruled out aspirating gastric contents, criminal acts, malnutrition. He was a well cared for baby. We are waiting for the results of the histological examinations, from which if nothing comes out, the syndrome of sudden infant death remains. The ‘crib death’ is of unknown cause, we don’t know what it comes from” explains Mr. Pavlidis.
According to the information of the report, the infant was not sick, he ate and slept in the evening and in the morning at about 6 o’clock the mother realized that he was unconscious and immediately took him to the General Hospital of Didymoteicho, where he was pronounced dead.
