The activity of the gang was certified in 28 cases of theft, with some having been carried out on the same day.
Police officers of the Property Crimes Prosecution Department of the Attica Security Directorate located on Friday at noon, in Nea Ionia, a 45-year-old man immediately after his escape from an electronics store, from which he had snatched a mobile phone, cutting the security cable with a cutter.
Immediately the policemen proceeded to immobilize and bind him, with the 45-year-old strongly resisting, hitting the policemen with punches and kicks.
In his possession was found a cutter and the mobile phone attributed to the store from which he removed it.
Also, according to ELAS, he intentionally and pretended to wear jackets with the logo of a product distribution company, in order to pass him off as an employee and not arouse suspicion.
Against the 45-year-old, a criminal case was filed for a gang, the members of which commit distinguished thefts by profession and as a follow-up, acceptance and distribution of proceeds of crime, violence against employees and violation of weapons legislation.
As emphasized in the relevant announcement, from the police investigation it emerged that the members of the gang from the beginning of the summer of 2023 were organized with the purpose of committing thefts from electronics stores in various areas of Attica with a methodology and distinct roles.
In addition to the main arrested member, a second member was also identified who had the role of the natural perpetrator, who is incarcerated in a Detention Center for similar crimes. The gang’s embezzlers are also being sought.
The activity of the gang was certified in 28 cases of theft, with some having been carried out on the same day.
The members of the gang moved on two-wheelers and entered the shops either separately, or together pretending to be customers during busy hours.
After approaching the counters where the electronic devices were placed, they created the right conditions to proceed with the theft.
Using cutters, they would cut the anti-theft cables, remove the mobile phone or smart watch devices and escape.
Soon after, they would meet the recipients of the thefts, where they would funnel the stolen goods to them, ensuring both a continuous flow of money to the criminal group and avoiding detection of the stolen goods in their possession in the event of an audit.
In the 45-year-old’s home, an air pistol, a number of cartridges and clothing used in the commission of the thefts were found and confiscated.
The arrested person was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
