The two alleged perpetrators – brothers aged 40 and 48 – are facing charges of first degree murder
At June 26 the two will be brought to justice defendants who were arrested in April 2023 for murder of the journalist Giorgos Karaivaz, as reported by the lawyer of his mother and sister, Roi Pavlea.
The two brothers – aged 40 and 48 – are facing charges of first degree murder.
“The alleged ones natural authors they are temporarily detained from April 28, 2023, with the temporary detention ending on October 28, 2024 for this and the trial is determined in June,” said the lawyer of Giorgos Karaivaz’s mother and sister, Roi Pavleas, speaking to OPEN.
“We will be haunted forever by this sob of Giorgos Karaivaz’s mother, because yesterday she relived the murder of her son, that is, the moment she was informed that her child was killed in such a brutal way.
At the moment, the moral perpetrators have not been found, however “investigations are continuing and are on the right track”, said Ms. Pavlea.
The mafia murder that shocked the country
Giorgos Karaivaz was murdered on April 9, 2021, outside his house in Alimos, by two people riding a bicycle.
The first indications are that this is a cold-blooded murder by organized crime (see death contract).
Announcements about the murder of G. Karaivaz were made by all political parties as well as the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, who stated that the murder of a journalist in a European country is a despicable and cowardly act and expressed the hope that they will be found soon the perpetrators.
Reporters Without Borders said in a report that Karaivaz was killed after reporting on a group of criminals and police officers allegedly extorting money from nightclubs in exchange for protection.
Security investigators have reportedly concluded that two groups of perpetrators were involved in Karaivaz’s murder. The first followed the journalist as he left the premises of the Star television station and informed the team of executioners about his movements.
On April 28, 2023, two years after Karaivaz’s murder, the police made two arrests of nationals aged 40 and 48 respectively, who allegedly had a supporting role in the murder.
The two arrested, after their long hours of apologizing to the investigator, and with the consent of the prosecutor, were deemed remanded in custody.
