With the agreement of the investigator and the prosecutor, he was released on the condition that he appear in person, once a month, at the police station of his place of residence
The 36-year-old guardian of the pit bull, which attacked and seriously injured a 55-year-old woman, devouring her small Maltese dog, last month, in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, gave explanations before the 3rd regular investigator of Thessaloniki. With the agreement of the interrogator and prosecutor, he was released on the condition that he appear in person, once a month, at the police station of his place of residence.
Apologizing, the 36-year-old, a Bulgarian national, allegedly claimed that he had taken all measures to keep the dog, stressing that the animal had never caused a problem in the past. “I couldn’t have foreseen how it would dig under the fence where it is kept,” he reportedly said. He also emphasized that on the day of the incident he was absent abroad, adding that as soon as he was informed about it, he contacted the 55-year-old patient.
Criminal proceedings had been brought against him for killing a companion animal and causing grievous bodily harm, with omission and possible intent. His 47-year-old compatriot, who was arrested as the pit bull’s caretaker, is being prosecuted with the same charges and after his plea was released without any restrictive conditions. In his statement, the 47-year-old stated that he had nothing to do with the care of the dog and that he was simply working in the business of his 36-year-old co-accused.
It is recalled that the 55-year-old patient underwent a lengthy surgery, after the severe injury she suffered to her hand, in an attempt to protect her Maltese.
