Within 48 hours, the demolition of the bridge at Old Athens – Corinth National Roadwhich was deemed dangerous after the overturning, explosion and fire of the tanker that took place on the evening of Friday, June 7, 2024, in the area of ​​the Isthmus of Corinth.

The decision to demolish it came after an autopsy by the political leadership and echelon of the General Secretariat of Public Works, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, as well as the concessionaire company, who immediately went to the spot, while special traffic arrangements were also launched.

Following the full removal of the damaged section of the bridge, which was completed today, one lane of the Isthmus-bound branch of Olympia Road and the Emergency Lane is expected to be handed over to traffic by midnight tonight.

The full restoration of traffic in the sector will be completed by the early afternoon of Monday, June 10.

The completion of the removal will be followed by the administrative procedures, in order to proceed as soon as possible with its restoration.

It is an intervention to deal with an emergency event that was completed in record time.
