“The effort will have to continue, as achieving the goal of climate neutrality will not come automatically”
THE Hellas has leveled up in the field of renewable energy sourceshowever the effort should continue as the achievement of the goal of climate neutrality will not come automatically.
This was pointed out by its president Hellenic Scientific Association of Wind Energy, Panagiotis Ladakakos at yesterday’s World Wind Energy Day event.
He identified as the biggest challenges for the sector, the cuts of “green” energy when there is no possibility of absorption from the demand, the one-sided development towards photovoltaics, the difficulties in licensing and the fake news at the expense of wind energy that connect the wind turbines with forest fires.
At the same event, the Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis stressed that Greece is now a world leader in the penetration of both solar and wind energy. A fact that is the result of the efforts of investors, employees and also of the reforms made in the last five years. It is, he emphasized. a Greek achievement of which we should be proud”.
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Alexandra Sdoukou reiterated the goal of doubling installed RES capacity to 23.5 gigawatts by 2030 while announcing measures to tackle the sector’s problems. “We will not let zero and negative stock prices and cuts undermine the future of the industry which is synonymous with the country’s ‘green’ future,” he said. The upcoming initiatives include increasing demand and adapting it to the new generation profile, accelerating storage units, developing offshore wind farms and new international interconnections.
The General Director of ELETAEN Panagiotis Papastamatiou marked the 30th anniversary of the passing of Law 2244/1994, which allowed for the first time in our country the production of electricity by private entities, exclusively (at that time) from renewable energy sources. It was, as he said, the first step in order for RES to reach today covering 50% of demand (64% in April).
As part of the awarding of the annual “Aeolos” awards, ELETAEN honored the then director of RES at the Ministry of Industry, Charalambos Pippos, the Hellenic Cables company (CEO Costas Savvakis received the award) and the MIT professor, specializing in floating Panos Sklavounos wind farms.
