The funeral of Lefteris Kalogiannis will be held on Sunday at 12 noon at I.N. Agia Marinis Ioannina.
The president of the Parliament made the following statement as soon as he was informed of the resignation of the former MP of Ioannina of the ND, Eleftherios Kalogiannis.
“We learned a particularly sad news for Ioannina and Epirus today. Quietly and full of days passed away Eleftherios Kalogiannis of Stavros, former Member of Parliament of Ioannina, self-made and successful businessman and many more that the Ioannito community knows and recognized during his many years of dynamic public presence such as his fruitful participation in the sports and self-governing events of our country.
Starting with the Chouliarades of Tzoumerka and the hard work of his paternal coal miner, he followed, after Zosimaia, higher technical studies in Athens which made him a very successful but also generous public works contractor, especially in the distant villages of our Prefecture. He was first elected as a Member of Parliament of Ioannina in the first post-political elections of 1974 and four more elections followed until 1993, leaving a creative imprint on the place. A dynamic, stubborn and well-documented claimant for Ioannina, he successfully handled the Continental issues. Perhaps the last of his writings, which were many, is entitled “My Odyssey”. So here today his “Odyssey” is completed after a varied, active but also contemplative life. His example will remind us that life is conquered and justified at the same time when the effort to advance and offer is continuous and genuine. to his wife Eftychia, to his children Stavros, Irini and Tatiana, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I express my deepest condolences.”
