It was dismantled by the Athens Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, a gang whose members were active in committing robberies at the expense of citizens, in the wider Attica region, having as their base stations and ISAP lines.

A total of 36 people were arrested, while the case file includes 20 more

In order to dismantle it, a large-scale police operation was carried out in the morning hours of Tuesday, June 18, 2024, by the Public Security Department of the Athens Security Sub-Directorate, in the presence of a judicial officer, in the context of which -20- members were arrested, as well as -13- people for other offences, while -3- members are already locked up in the country’s detention facilities.

Against them, and against another -20- people, a case file was filed for -as the case may be- setting up a gang that commits robberies, committed and attempted, by profession and by habit, weapons, drugs, attempted dangerous bodily harm, violence against employees , disruption of service, incitement, aggravated theft and receiving and disposing of proceeds of crime.

How did they act?

As it emerged from the thorough investigation, the members of the gang, at least from the beginning of 2024, having as their starting points ISAP stations and wires, especially in areas of the center of Athens, acted in groups of at least two persons, which by using physical force or by violent pulling, they removed from their victims the chains they wore around their necks.

They would then hand the chains over to -2- people who acted as the gang’s pawnbrokers, who would sell them and split the profits with the other members.

What did the investigations find?

In physical searches and searches carried out in houses in Athens, Keratsini and Piraeus, among others, the following were found and confiscated:

  • -10- chains, gold necklace and wristwatch,
  • -3- smartwatches,
  • -4- laptop,
  • External Hard Drives,
  • -33- mobile phones,
  • knife, -3- improvised blades and -2- knives,
  • -24- drug tablets and quantity of cannabis,
  • electronic scale,
  • -350- euros,
  • bag crowd,
  • -9- pairs of sunglasses and
  • -2- bank cards

Remarkable for their audacity is that, during their stay in a temporary detention area, three of the arrested incited the others to attack police officers with punches and kicks, injuring at least one of them.

A total of 41 cases of robbery were solved

From the investigations so far, -41- cases of robberies, which have been committed since February 2024, have been solved.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecuting authority.
