Book Fair: see restaurants and bars to eat and drink before or after the event

Anyone going to the Book Fair this weekend, in Pacaembu, São Paulo, can extend their visit with the good options for eating and drinking in the surroundings of Vilaboim Square and Buenos Aires Park, which is about a ten-minute walk away.

The fair, which also has a food court, is free and organized by the Quatro Cinco Um Association with Maré Produções. Sheet is a partner of the event.

In the region, you can find Italian and Israeli food, feijoada and ice cream. See below for addresses to go before or after the event, which starts at 10 am and goes until 7 pm on Saturday (6) and 5:30 pm on Sunday (7), the last day of the fair.

BARS

Square Bar

Serves feijoada as an all-you-can-eat buffet on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11am to 5pm. For R$93, you can choose meats such as tail, tongue, feet, ears, homemade sausage, dried meat and ribs. There are also the traditional side dishes of kale, rice, farofa and vinaigrette. To pair with the food, the order includes Brahma draft beer (R$12.90) and different caipirinhas with vodka, sake and cachaça, which start at R$31.

Double Deck

Bar with nightclub, organizes parties with unlimited drinks on weekends. There are afternoon versions, from 4pm to 9pm, which cost from R$39.90, or nighttime versions, which start at 10pm. The public can find beers, caipirinhas, gin and vodka drinks, as well as energy drinks. You must bring a plastic mug —glass and aluminum ones are not allowed— or buy a returnable one from the house for R$10.

Vino!

At this wine bar, the full-bodied food menu suggests pairings for each dish with different labels. For the gorgonzola risotto with pear and walnuts (R$48), the restaurant suggests pairing it with white wines made from grapes such as sauvignon blanc or riesling. If you choose the lamb shoulder with parmesan risotto (R$99), the best option is the cabernet sauvignon aged in wood. As for drinks, glasses start at R$18; bottles, at R$90.

RESTAURANTS

Porteño Roast

With an Argentine accent, it focuses on grilled meats. Among the cuts, it offers ancho steak (R$188) and tapa de cuadril (R$210), the name that the Argentines give to picanha. If you go with a group, the parillada (R$495) combines roast strip, chorizo, ojo de bife (the core of the ancho) and flank steak. The side dishes include rice, such as porteño (R$55), made with straw potatoes, spicy sausage, onion and egg, as well as potatoes, such as grilled.

New Restaurant

This is the branch of the traditional restaurant in Baixo Pinheiros. Among the main dishes, there is filet mignon (R$105) with raw ham, mushroom sauce and linguini in butter, and duck confit (R$91), made with port wine and garnished with roasted figs, gorgonzola and mashed mandioquinha. Lighter, the saint peter (R$72) comes with a caper, almond and raisin sauce, as well as mashed potatoes.

Pinati

This Israeli restaurant is a good option for lunch on Sunday, since it is closed on Saturday for Shabbat. Since 2011, it has been serving dishes such as shakshuka (R$60), prepared with fresh tomatoes, red peppers, crispy chickpeas and eggs; it is served with lafa, a flatbread or pita. Sandwiches such as the yiddishe schnitzel (R$58) complete the menu. It comes with breaded chicken, egg pâté and
and cucumber pickles.

Tappo Trattoria

It’s located in a room with high ceilings and large glass windows. Chef Benny Novak’s Italian restaurant closed four years ago, but reopened earlier this year on the ground floor of the Paquita building. The classic pasta menu features short pasta carbonara (R$81), prepared with guanciale (pork cheek), egg yolk cream, parmesan, pecorino and black pepper. Another option is the Genovese ragu (R$79), whose beef sauce is cooked for six hours in a combination of onions, tomatoes and red wine.

Vica Pota Pizzeria and Bakery

Created by chef Francisco Carlos Salvalajo over 20 years ago, it serves small, medium or large pizzas, with a thin and crispy crust. Among the largest, the Spanish (R$121) has tomato sauce, mozzarella and Parma ham. Dessert also comes in round shapes: the Romeo and Juliet, which has Catupiry cheese, guava cream and cinnamon, costs R$89 (medium).

ICE-CREAM PARLOR

Trevisi the Ice Cream

It produces water-based or milk-based gelatos. Fruits dominate the sorbets in mixes such as pineapple with rosemary and strawberry with orange and basil. In the milk-based ones, the banoffee is made with banana gelato with dulce de leche and pieces of biscuit. A cone with one flavor costs R$16. A large cone with two flavors costs R$25.
