THE excessive speed, not wearing a seat belt and not wearing a helmet while driving were the most dangerous offenses that were confirmed to car and two-wheeler drivers in the first half of 2024 in the Region of Western Greece.

Also, among the most dangerous violations recorded and directly related to driving safety, was the absence of technical inspection of vehicles, as well as driving with worn tires.

Also noteworthy was the number of delinquent drivers, who made dangerous maneuvers while driving and violated the red light.

In particular, according to the official data of the Police regarding the controls, presented by the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency, there is an increase in dangerous violations confirmed in the first half of 2024 in the Region of Western Greece, compared to the corresponding period of 2023.

According to the Police data, in the first half of 2024, 21,681 dangerous violations were confirmed in the three regional units of Western Greece, i.e. in Achaia, Ilia and Aitoloakarnania, while in the same period of 2023, 21,171 dangerous violations were confirmed.

Specifically, the 10 most dangerous violations were the following:

  • 10,784 for speeding
  • 2.601 for failure to use a seat belt
  • 2,329 for not wearing a helmet
  • 1,526 for not checking KTEO
  • 867 for driving with worn tires
  • 821 for dangerous maneuvers while driving
  • 811 for a red light violation
  • 594 for movement in the opposite traffic flow
  • 340 for using a mobile phone while driving
  • 251 for not using child seats

The first half of 2023

As for the first half of 2023, the following 10 most dangerous violations were confirmed in the Region of Western Greece:

  • 10,260 for speeding
  • 2,748 for not wearing a seat belt
  • 1,839 for not wearing a helmet
  • 1,574 for non-control KTEO
  • 957 for a red light violation
  • 929 for driving with worn tires
  • 759 for dangerous maneuvers while driving
  • 570 for driving in the opposite direction of traffic
  • 338 for not using child seats
  • 256 for mobile phone use while driving

Breathalyzer tests

Along with the checks for dangerous offences, there were also checks to investigate drunkenness.

In particular, according to the Police data, in the first half of 2024, 28,340 breathalyzer tests were carried out and 846 drivers were identified, who were under the influence of alcohol.

In the corresponding period of 2023, 26,585 breathalyzer tests were carried out and 1,006 drivers were identified, who were driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the data and given that there were more checks, there was a decrease in the number of drivers who had exceeded the limit.
