Strong winds continue to blow in the region – Firefighters in Rethymno and Kilkis continue to battle with scattered outbreaks
Firefighters in Evia continue to battle scattered outbreaks after the devastating fire that broke out at noon on Wednesday.
Strong winds are still blowing in the area today, while as announced by the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias two firefighters were injured in the battle with the flames.

Earlier, it became known that a fire engine overturned and its driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
Firefighters battled the flames through the night, creating fire zones to prevent them from approaching the village of Afrati. In the morning the picture was improved, however the ecological disaster that has been caused is enormous.
Many animals were burned
Many animals that were in the forest as well as sheep of farmers in the area met a tragic death, according to evima. In Lechries the situation was tragic, as animals were burned in a corral while yesterday a dog was rescued by a firefighter who was wandering in the burning forest of Pissopna in Evia, while the fire was in progress.
More than 183 firefighters and 8 groups of hikers with 52 vehicles are working at the scene to fight the active outbreaks, while nine aircraft and four helicopters have started dropping from the air since the morning.
“Battle” with scattered outbreaks in Rethymnon and Kilkis
The same image of the fire is also present in the forest area in the Sellia region of Rethymno in the Kotsifos gorge. There are also several active scattered fires there.
Water drops from the air from a helicopter continued throughout the day, while 95 firefighters with 6 infantry divisions, 27 vehicles are also working. At the same time, there is assistance from local water bodies.
But also in Kilkis the fire brigades are “battle” with scattered outbreaks.
According to the fire department, 31 agroforestry fires broke out today, of which 23 were dealt with immediately, in their initial stage, while the fire brigade is dealing with another 8
