The EU Civil Protection Mechanism was activated at the request of the Greek authorities
Four EU member states are helping to deal with forestry fires in Attica, through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, the representative of the European Commission, in charge of crisis management, Balas Uivari, told AMPE.
The representative of the Commission stated that the EU Civil Protection Mechanism activated at the request of the Greek authorities.
“Already the Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Center has helped to mobilize both firefighting planes and ground teams for Greece from some EU Member States, through the Mechanism,” noted the same representative.
Specifically, this assistance concerns:
Two canadair from Italy, part of rescEU.
A helicopter from France, part of rescEU.
A ground firefighting team from the Czech Republic and one from Romania.
The Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Center is constantly monitoring developments and is ready to provide further assistance, the Commission representative noted.
