“I declare that I deny all the accusations,” said Dimitris Lignadis during his first statement to Mixed Jury Court immediately after reading the indictment.
The accused for four rapes, who testified in court as an actor, director and teacher, after hearing what was attributed to him, pleaded not guilty to all the acts included in the case file.
The process started with a request of the defense to leave the room a specific person who had sued Dimitris Lignadis but the case was statute-barred. The man was in the room as an associate of Maria Kourtesi, one of the lawyers in the civil lawsuit.
Alexis Kougias asked the court not to allow the specific person to be inside the room, stating that he considers that the man wants to follow the process to inform the witnesses who are outside.
The civil suit stated that it did not oppose the request.
The Chief Prosecutor suggested that the man leave the room, considering that it is possible to ask for his testimony in the future and therefore he should not be allowed to attend the trial.
Dimitris Lignadis’ lawyer asked the court to summon the person in question. The court decision was for the man to leave the courtroom.
