The Spata – Artemis Security Department, after a combined pre-investigative evaluation of information and evidence, identified 31 cases of backpack thefts from bathers committed by a gang of minors, from the beginning of June to the 15th of August, on the beach of Artemis (Loutsa).

The five members of the gang (aged between 14 and 17 years old) were located, at noon on August 15, by police officers from the DIAS Team. immediately after the theft of a backpack from a bather on the beach of Loutsa.

At the sight of the patrolling policemen, they threw away the stolen goods and tried to escape, but after targeted searches and mobilization of the forces, they were immobilized and taken to the Spata-Artemis Security Department.

Along the route of the chase, the items previously taken from the victim were found and collected and returned to him.

From the Security Department of Spata – Artemis, a case file was filed against them for setting up a gang with the purpose of committing distinguished thefts by profession and as a follow-up, as well as for disloyalty, ending the criminal activity of the gang.

As for their modus operandi, the gang’s juvenile gang members, wearing bathing suits, moved around the stretch of beach during the morning and afternoon hours, removing backpacks from mats while their owners were swimming.

Those arrested were taken to the Athens District Attorney.
