The anti-dictatorship activist passed away today Thursday at the age of 92 Argyris (Akis) Maltsidis.
He was born in 1932 in Thessaloniki and studied Civil Engineering at AUTH.
For his anti-dictatorship action, through the ranks of the Democratic Defense in Thessaloniki, he was sentenced in November 1968 to 5.5 years in prison by the Extraordinary Military Court of Thessaloniki, together with Stelios Nestoras, Pavlos Zannas, Giorgos Sipitanos, Sotiris Dede and Kostas Pyrza.
During his transfer to Korydallos prisons, he carried, sewn into his belt, a complaint to the International Red Cross of the political prisoners in Gendi Koule about the inhumane conditions of their confinement, which caused an international outcry against the Junta.
After the dictatorship, he was a member of the Board of Directors. of the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and in 2012 he published the book ‘Nikolaos Votsis and the torpedoing of Fethi Bulent’.
His funeral will take place on Friday 23/8at 12 noon at the Resurrection of the Lord cemeteries.
The Association of Imprisoned and Exiled Resistance Fighters (S.F.E.A.) 1967-1974 expressed its condolences to his relatives.
