Yesterday evening, DIAS police officers rescued a man who was in danger of drowning in the sea in the area of the Drapetsonas Fertilizer complex, according to a post made by ELAS on social media, which was accompanied by the video of the rescue.

In particular, as can be seen in the video, the police officers dived into the sea and helped a man who was trapped with a fishing line at his feet and could not swim.

However, according to information received by SKAI, the reason for the entrapment does not seem to have been a mistake made by the fisherman, but rather it was caused by the waves caused by a ship that entered the port of Piraeus at a higher speed than expected, resulting in indeed the fisherman’s boat to be completely destroyed.

Officers managed to free the man and brought him safely to shore where he was given first aid.

The relevant post of ELAS in detail: “Last night (23/08/2024) policemen of the DI.AS team. they received a signal of a person calling for help at sea in the area of the Drapetsonas fertilizer yard.

Arriving at the scene, they found a man in the sea, at a distance of at least 30 meters from the shore, near an overturned boat.

The officers, defying the danger, dove into the sea, swam to the person and found that he was trapped with a line around his feet, making it impossible for him to swim away.

They immediately cut the line and carried the person to shore where he was given first aid.

In fact, a policeman in this attempt was slightly injured in his left leg by the rocks.”
