Danis Katranidis had recently moved away from the public eye
The actor Danis Katranidis, who had long been withdrawn from the public eye due to the health problems he was facing, breathed his last today at the age of 75.
Danis Katranidis was born on August 4, 1949 in Aegaleo. He was a graduate (1971) of the Athens Higher Drama School Giorgos Theodosiadis. During the period 1971-1978 he was an actor of the National Theatre. In the theater season 1978-1979, he made history in the role of compere in the legendary show Cabaret staged by Aliki Vougiouklakis.
About his collaboration with Aliki Vougiouklakis, Danis Katranidis revealed a few years later: “We made an appointment at the Aliki theater. He tells me things about me as if we have worked together for 10 years in the theater. I remain speechless. He had read me. When he proposed to me I said to think about it. Think about it, he tells me. Then there was chaos, I was rehearsing for two plays and I was a bartender in a bar.”
He performed in all kinds of theater, from tragedy and comedy to musicals and revues, while his involvement in radio theater is highly noteworthy. He taught at the Higher Drama School “Iasmos” and at the Theater Workshop “Vassilis Diamantopoulos”. A lover of the sea and a keen sailor, he has to his credit dozens of participations and conquests in open sea competitions.
THE Danis Katranidis was also the voice of SKAI 100.3.
The three marriages
Danis Katranidis was married three times. About his marriages, he said in an interview: “I got married three times because I originally wanted to have a family. The marriages between them were many years apart, they did not take place every month. The first and the second are 17 years apart and the second and the third ten. It is a reasonable period for someone to say I can fix my life, start a family and have children. I haven’t regretted doing it.
The reason I didn’t have children was not for pathological reasons. The reason was different and better than it seemed. I have no complaints. I have been given things generously both at work and in life, more than I expected. I’ve made a lot of mistakes, I thank the people who treated me with leniency.”
His last wife was Mirka Papakonstantinou. The two met at the Athens Drama School Giorgos Theodosiadis, where they both studied. As the actress has revealed, it was not love at first sight, but a love that developed through the company. However, they married in 1971 and divorced in 1977.
“The divorce came because he wanted to remarry. Do me a favor. It continued and our relationship was not romantic and with the separation it continued. Danis has married two more times and he inherited my next wives, because they called me when they got divorced. We will not go further because they are dramatic stories,” the actress had revealed.
After their breakup they remained good friends and collaborated many times professionally.
His last public appearance
The last public appearance of Danis Katranidis was in August 2020, when he went to watch the performance “Oedipus” at the Theater of the Rocks. Next to the actor sat his good colleague and friend, Eleni Kokkidou.
After the end of the show, Danis Katranidis was photographed backstage with the actors Michalis Sarantis, Nikis Pallikarakis and Ilias Zervos.
