The announcement regarding the reports about the verbal episode that the 12-year-old, who was a victim of pimping in Colonos, had on Sunday with a former defendant in the case
The Headquarters of EL.AS issued a statement regarding the reports about the verbal incident that the 12-year-old, who was a victim of pimping in Kolonos, and her brother had on Sunday with a former defendant in the relevant case.
As emphasized in the announcement, the reports that talk about the inaction of the police officer, who accompanied her for security reasons, during the incident and that he did not inform his Service about the incident, do not correspond to reality.
ELAS announcement in detail:
“The Headquarters of the Hellenic Police announces that reports reproduced on the internet and concerning the actions of a police officer assigned to escort a minor, victim of a pimping case in Athens, do not correspond to reality.
It should be noted that, by decision of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Minors of the Attica Security Directorate has been assigned to cover the needs of accompanying security of the minor, for the period of her temporary stay with a relative in Athens.
Midday hours of Sunday, September 8, 2024, and while the minor was moving in an area of Athens, together with her adult relative and accompanied by a police officer, they accidentally met a 34-year-old man, who had been a defendant in the above case, and he addressed them, without his words are understood by the policeman.
Subsequently, the minor’s relative followed the 34-year-old, asking him to repeat what he said, while the minor did the same, despite the policeman’s advice to the contrary, resulting in a verbal altercation between them.
The incident ended with the intervention of the police officer, who acted with the safety of the minor in mind, immediately informing his Service, given that until that time none of the people involved wanted to file a summons.
The incident was later filed by the mother of the minor, where, in the context of the preliminary investigation carried out by the Kolonou Security Department, the police officer was examined as a witness.
The protection of minors is a top priority for the Greek Police. Specialized services such as the Sub-Directorate for the Protection of Minors, work every day with sensitivity and dedication to protect the most vulnerable members of our society. In this context, the police officers intervene immediately and with complete professionalism in every incident, confirming that the welfare of minors is a central axis of the actions of the Greek Police”.
