Car owner who realized from the balcony of his house that the perpetrators were breaching his vehicle’s fuel tank
Two men who were convicted of stealing petrol from parked vehicles are being sent to prison. Police handcuffed them when they made the mistake of putting petrol instead of diesel in their own car, causing it to emit fumes.
The Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki imposed on each of them an 8-month prison sentence, while, taking into account their previous convictions, it decided to serve the first 4 months, suspending the rest of the sentence.
A car owner testified as a prosecution witness who noticed from the balcony of his house that the perpetrators were breaking into his vehicle’s fuel tank. He called for the Immediate Action of EL.AS. and decided to follow the perpetrators,
As he approached them he saw them emptying the stolen petrol into their own tank and then it started to smoke, as it was a diesel car. Without revealing his identity, the witness allegedly offered to help them delay the arrival of the police.
In their apologies, the perpetrators confessed their act, asking for the court’s leniency.
