A large rally was held today in its central square Palama of the Karditsa Regional Unit, as, as the speakers pointed out, one year after Daniel’s devastating floods, the people of the region are still facing the tragic consequences.

Local officials said that despite the government’s repeated announcements, the area remains unprotected in the face of new floods, embankments have not been restored, compensations given to farmers and other flood victims are far below 100% of the actual damage, houses demolished they remain without the debris being collected, etc.

Its president of the United Federation of Agricultural Associations of the Prefecture of Karditsa, Kostas Tzellas, he noted that “immediate and substantial solutions must be given in order to continue our lives, to remain in our villages, in our homes and in our jobs, and we have no intention of leaving the prefecture of Karditsa. And neither do we intend to accept any plan of the Dutch, no plan of anyone, that talks about changing crops and jobs because some companies want to profit from us. The agencies, in the context of the claim, among other things, talk about 100% compensation, without terms and conditions, for the damage to plant production, to agricultural capital (plant, animal, fixed), shops, machinery, warehouses and stored production in total of those affected. To immediately pay the state aid for cleaning and restoration of building facilities, warehouses, stable facilities, machinery and other equipment and goods to those affected. To simplify measure 5.2 for livestock breeders-beekeepers and to include all those affected”.
