According to the relevant announcement, these are 36 general education teachers and four special education teachers.
The Ministry of Education proceeded with the hiring of 40 teachers as temporary substitutes, with a fixed-term Private Law employment relationship, for the provision of digital education and educational teaching work at the Digital Tutoring School.
According to the ministry’s announcement, these are 36 general education teachers and four special education teachers.
In the announcement, it is also stated that the teachers must present themselves and undertake duty at the Directorate of Secondary Education of Athens II, from Monday 16 to Tuesday 17 September 2024, where they will be assigned by decision of the Director of Education.
There remain 18,000 teacher vacancies in schools, according to the ILO
Vacancies remain in teaching staff in Primary and Secondary Education, despite the recruitment of permanent teachers and substitutes, according to the Greek Teachers’ Federation (IOE).
During a press conference on the occasion of the start of the school year, the president of the ILO, Spyros Marinis, stated that the gaps in schools are estimated at approximately 18,000, with approximately 10,000 of them in Primary Education, i.e. in kindergartens and elementary schools schools.
As Mr. Marinis noted, this number concerns all specialties, as well as parallel support. Indicatively, in the third district of Athens, the vacancies are about 700, in the prefecture of Achaia 224, in the law of Corinthia 169 and in Evia 152. In addition, he said that about 50% of all-day workers do not work.
“We hear big words, which try to hide the very big problems that accumulate in education and are explosive”, emphasized the president of the ILO.
In addition to the staffing problems of the schools, Mr. Marinis pointed out the issue of the merger of departments nationwide, with more than 1,000 departments closed, and, as he said, “in several cases this implies a change of school.”
In addition, he underlined that there has been a proliferation of inappropriate teaching spaces and containers in which students study and estimated that the 250 million euros that have been announced for the improvement of school infrastructure “will not be of substance”.
All this, together with the industry’s claims, is expected to be discussed at the all-important meeting that the ILO Board of Directors will have with the leadership of the Ministry of Education on September 18, 2024.
