His figure with the white hair and the strange iron boat moving through the flooded Metamorfosi remained in the memories of the helpless citizens
This is the 81-year-old Kostas Tassiopoulos who in the bad weather “Daniel” rescued at least 15 people with his boat, taking them to safer places until the rescuers took action. Today, Saturday, September 21, he breathed his last, leaving both his relatives and fellow villagers in mourning.
His figure with the white hair, the strange iron boat and the big oar moving through the flooded Metamorfosi Karditsa was captured in the images broadcast by the mobile phones of his fellow villagers who were up on the roofs waiting for help.
As he stated, he experienced four similar floods in the area, with Daniel being the worst, and for this reason he was fully prepared to deal with extreme phenomena.
In his statement to KarditsaLive.Net the president of the community Mr. Petros Kontogiannis said:
“Our society is poorer today, an emblematic figure of the modern history of our village is gone. The man who managed to overcome himself at the age of 81, with individual struggle, selflessness, self-sacrifice, fortitude and with his self-sacrifice he managed to save several human lives.
Kostas Tasiopoulos was governed by humility, honesty, kindness and love for his fellow man. In the most difficult moments, he generously spread to all of us the courage, strength and hope to get back on our feet.
For me and my fellow villagers, he is and will be our heroic role model.
Have a good trip to heaven Hero.
Heartfelt condolences to his family.”
