The Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis spoke for the practical observance of the commitment to support the public university, announcing during today’s extraordinary meeting of Chancellors 1,000 permanent appointments in Higher Education.

Supporting the public university has been our firm commitment since day one. A commitment that is kept in practice by the implementation of targeted interventions to strengthen the public higher education institutions of our country”, emphasized Mr. Pierrakakis and added:

“After increasing funding, providing all the necessary tools to support their internationalization, and strengthening the self-administrator, more than 1,000 permanent appointments of faculty members, EDIP, EIB and administrative employees are announced today. At HYPAITHA we look forward to the continuation of the cordial cooperation with the Synod of Rectors and with the rector’s authorities of each individual institution. On the occasion of today’s Synod, we renew our commitment to continuous support of the work of our universities».

More specifically, the recruitments will concern:

  • 950 faculty members, of which 200 concern Ministry of Health appropriations for Health Schools,
  • 22 members of Laboratory Teaching Staff – EDIP,
  • 8 members of Special Technical Laboratory Staff – ETEP and
  • 20 administrative employees.

The distribution of staff members per university institution will take place, according to a relevant information from the Ministry of Education’s press office, after an evaluation of the relevant requests by the National Authority for Higher Education – ETHAAE.

It is noted that the relevant announcements at the Synod were made jointly with the Ministers of the Interior, Thodoris Livanos, and of Health, Adonis Georgiadis. It is also worth noting that today’s extraordinary online Synod of Rectors was convened following the initiative of Kyriakos Pierrakakis.

Finally, from the press office of the Ministry of Education, it became known that with a letter from the Minister of Education to the rectors of all institutions, they are requested to send by October 31, 2024, updated proposals for the strengthening of self-administration and the de-bureaucratization of A.E. I., in order to further improve their orderly and efficient operation.
