A 66-year-old man who was sentenced to a total of 12.5 years in prison for abusing a minor and insulting sexual dignity, with his 8-year-old nephew as the victim, has returned to prison after being convicted by the Halkidiki Mixed Jury Court.

The acts described in the indictment were committed in the apartment of the 66-year-old in Ampelokipis, Thessaloniki, when he took over the supervision of the minor because his parents, who live in an adjacent apartment, were forced to be absent for a while.

The parents were the ones who contacted the Police last October complaining about their son’s “touching private parts”. What they complained about was confirmed by the 8-year-old during his examination by a child psychologist.

In his plea, the accused admitted that he had a momentary contact but without malicious intent. However, he was unable to convince judges and juries who unanimously found him guilty, while the request for leniency was rejected by a majority (4-3). Finally, the verdict of the same court was acquittal for some cartridges that had been found in his house (he was accused of possession of ammunition).
