With the aim of strengthening preschool education structures, the Region of Attica has completed and is delivering a new, modern three-story nursery school in Ilioupoli. The project, which was entirely financed by the Region, was inaugurated yesterday afternoon by the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalia, in a special ceremony, in the presence of the local authorities and the residents of the region.
The new nursery, located at the junction of Leoforos Irini and Aristogeitonos streets, has a total area of ​​1,003.8 square meters and has, among other things, a basement and a roof. Its capacity is 50 toddlers and 20 infants, thus covering important needs of the region.
The project is part of the Attica Regional Works Program for the fiscal year 2024, with the cost amounting to 1,806,000 euros. Based on the programming contract, the Region proceeded to fully finance the project as it had committed, while its operation and maintenance will be undertaken by the Municipality of Ilioupoli.
As the Regional Governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, typically emphasizes:
“Investing in the new generation is a priority for us. Today’s opening of the new nursery, here in Ilioupoli, is just one part of our holistic plan to build, repair and renovate a total of 18 nursery and nursery centers throughout the basin, with a total budget of 21,704,000 euros. These are structures financed by the Regional Authority, in order to meet the needs of thousands of families.
Our goal is that every child in Attica has access to quality preschool education structures. To grow up in an environment with care, safety and love. We are committed to continuously creating appropriate conditions for children to develop their personalities with safety and dignity».
The 18 projects of construction, repair and renovation of children’s and nursery schools financed entirely by the Region of Attica, cover the care needs of infants and toddlers in all eight Regional Units of the Basin.
For his part, the Mayor of Ilioupoli, Stathis Psyrropoulos, said during the opening of the nursery school:
“Through this construction, with the undivided help of the Region that financed the project and was by our side at all stages until the implementation of the project, we wanted to ensure a holistic approach to the station. That’s why its lower windows are in line with the ground, so that the children living inside it can have contact with the earth. It is a building that shapes an entire world in the heart of our city. From the beginning it is oriented towards ensuring a better quality of life for children».
Among others present at the ceremony were: the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Sofia Zacharakis, the Deputy Minister of Immigration and Asylum Sofia Voultepsi, the MPs of the B3 South Sector of Athens Haris Theocharis (ND), Pavlos Christidis (PASOK – KINAL) and Nikos Vretos (NIKI ), the President of the Municipal Council of Ilioupoli Dimitra Kormas – Gutziana, the Deputy Mayor of Social Protection Yiannis Poulos and the former Mayors of Ilioupoli, Vassilis Valasopoulos and Giorgos Hatzidakis.
