“Dark decade 1964-1974 with Alexis Papahelas- Exclusive screening of the new long documentary series of SKAI
On Tuesday, October 1, a few days before the premiere of the new documentary series, contributors, journalists, SKAI executives and friends watched the first episode, in an exclusive screening at the Vassilis & Elizas Goulandris Foundation in Pagrati.
The “Dark Decade 1964-1974”, the six-episode documentary series by Alexis Papahelas, comes to the SKAI program from Monday 14 October at 21.00 and illuminates unknown behind-the-scenes of the most turbulent decade of our modern history.
Documents and testimonies reveal how Greece entered the adventure of dictatorship. For the first time, rare audio documents from conversations in the White House and from the fateful Greek war council of July 20 are coming to light. The conspiracies, the secret operations, the conspiracies that shook modern Greek history and what happened behind closed doors are brought to light by the protagonists of the events and key people who break their silence for the first time. What was the relationship of the CIA and the USA with the junta and the dictators, how was the coup against Archbishop Makarios organized, why were the Greek guns silenced during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.
Just before the screening:
The Chief Content Officer of SKAI, Alkisti Maragoudakis, welcomed the attendees, emphasizing that “SKAI, once again, places history at the center of its program. From ancient history to contemporary issues, we have developed and presented original productions with the aim of bringing the public into contact with its past, a past that leaves its mark on the present and the future. People who do not know their history are doomed to be led to the same adventures. You have heard, I imagine, that history repeats itself, for better or for worse. In this particular case, the reconstruction of the events of the DARK DECADE is illuminated by the research lens of Alexis Papachelas in a unique way that has not been captured until now”.
The scientific advisor of the series, Tasos Sakellaropoulos, noted that: “the work done by Alexis Papachelas and the production team is excellent. The six episodes of the documentary are an extraordinary mosaic, a mosaic whose every piece works like a very tight reportage… All this is framed by interviews with people who had a decisive role in the events.”
The journalist and director of the newspaper “I Kathimerini”, Alexis Papachelas, after thanking the executives of SKAI and its partners in the creation of the documentary, among others, emphasized that “This documentary depicts a period that is catalytic, but unfortunately known in public opinion with stereotypes, with conspiracy theories, with gossip and rarely becomes the subject of a cool recording of the facts. It is for me an era, which has many guilty secrets, such as for example what happened in 1974 in Cyprus. I hope that with this documentary we break some taboos, tell things as they are. It is a period that should continue to be the subject of study. I hope that it is a documentary that will not only be seen by people who have experienced these events, but also by a younger generation, which in my opinion is very important will learn the history in a cool way.”
Premiere, Monday 14 October at 21.00 and every Monday at the same time on SKAI
